Pedagogy

Our teaching philosophy is grounded in building strong personal relationships with students, parents and schools to empower all stakeholders to have agency over the learning process. We aim to support students to be independent, inspired and creative global citizens who have a strong ethical framework.

Our teaching practice aims to incorporate elements of the alpine environment and community into classroom learning to help build connections for students between their classroom learning and their lived experience at Hotham. We aim to build a fun, collaborative and supportive classroom environment where students feel empowered to be themselves, take risks, fail and succeed with support from their peers and their teachers.  Students will build their skills with managing their time and workload, while developing strong social connections and learning to be resilient and positive learners.

Vision

An inspired and dynamic classroom where teachers and students share intellectual control, debate ideas, share their knowledge and their passion and together find the questions and answers they're looking for.

Mission

Ensure every student returns to school after a winter at Hotham with their curriculum goals met, and with a broader, deeper understanding of education, it's value and the world and their place in it.

We aim to build positive engagement in the learning process and shift the expectations of what a 'classroom' has to look and feel like.
